Derek Wood

Wyenot News was sad to learn of the death of Mr. Derek Wood who drowned whilst on holiday with his family in Alghero, Sardinia to celebrate his ruby wedding anniversary. Mr Wood was a director of Rehau and was well known for his involvement with local charities and with the Phoenix Theatre.

The photograph below shows Mr. Wood about to set off on a sponsored walk in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support earlier this year. The story of Derek's fund raising walk can be found in the 5th April edition of Wyenot News. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

The French Market

The French Market came to town again on Friday, 29th September, joining forces with the regular monthly Farmers' Market and bringing with it a vibrant atmosphere which made the town centre a place well worth visiting for a day. The visit brought people out into the town centre, giving it life, despite the damp, late September weather. No matter what your point of view (many local traders were not happy about the French Market) images of that 'life' attract future visitors to the town and in the long run, everybody benefits!

Below are several photos taken on the day - of the French traders and part of the British contingent, who along with the regular Farmers' Market traders, also joined in on the day to raise money for the girl's football team.
