A Very Successful Ross Town Carnival Week 2006

This year's Ross Town Carnival attracted record numbers of visitors, traders and charity stalls to the riverside field on Saturday, 5th August. The event took place on what started out as a cloudy but very hot and humid day with the judges visiting carnival entrants at the Ashburton Industrial Estate before the procession began. The Carnival procession then followed a route which took them around the whole of the town centre and down to the riverside.

I have tried to include a photo of every Carnival 2006 entry in this week's Wyenot News and have dedicated the first two and a half pages of this issue to the parade. I hope I have not missed anybody. If I have forgotten you, I have certainly not done so intentionally - there is a lot to cover in a short space of time though, so please forgive me if I have.

With serious family matters to deal with at the moment, I have not had a lot of time to prepare, so this week I am only going to cover the parade. Next week, I shall run photos of the field events, including belly dancers, the bandstand music and the annual duck race. I shall also run many more photos in a temporary gallery and all being well, some video footage of both the parade and the Mayor's jazz band (I make the 'all being well' disclaimer for technical reasons - my video editing software is currently running like a pig and needs reinstalling!).

Note added 16th August: The carnival field events, slide show and video are now available for viewing. [Please click here]
