Alton Road and Waterside Floods

Water running off the hillside from Chase Woods due to poor drainage on farm land caused severe flooding of people's homes in both Alton Road and Waterside on Tuesday morning, 25th November, following heavy overnight rain.

Pictured below, the water can be seen running along Penyard Lane. The Fire Brigade were called to pump flood water from houses in both Alton Road and Waterside. Most of the water had actually been pumped away by the time I arrived to take the photographs but as can be seen, people's homes were left ruined by the mud and silt left behind.

Later in the week, homes in Alton Road were being cleaned up on the instruction of insurance companies. Many possessions were unsalvageable and had to be recorded then put into a skip for disposal.

Potters Bar Reunion and Po's Birthday Party 2005!

A Rhubarb Tart has fascinated all the poets.
Especially the immortal bard;
Even Richard III called out on Bosworth Field,
'MY KINGDOM FOR A SLICE OF RHUBARB TART!'

Last year the Potters Bar Requiem Mass (partaking of alcoholic fluids) was a great success with at least 150 old Potters Bar frequenters turning up for the occasion! The music was loud, the beer, 'like making love in a punt' (you know - close to water) but you all drank enough of it and it worked just the same. The usual crowd gathered around the football table and others brought along old photograph albums whilst we all enjoyed the music of Pink Floyd, Mott the Hoople, Hawkwind, The Bonzo Dog Band and John Cleese, to name but a few, at true Potters Bar volume. Everybody had a fantastic time!

The clay pots had gone and the men's toilet had been moved from 'outside, turn right, behind the hedge' to up stairs, where the flat used to be but even that had it's moments. 'I'm peeing in Irene's bedroom,' said Andy, as we met whilst making room for more beer.

'You arranged all this for me!' Exclaimed Po, whose birthday coincidentally fell on the same day. 'Yes, we did,' he lied, 'and were doing it again in 2005.'

Po's birthday party will take place in the old Potters Bar on Saturday 26th November at 8:00 pm!

Whether you used to frequent Ross-on-Wye's most famous (or should that be infamous) venue or whether you are the son, daughter, nephew or niece of an old Potters Bar frequenter and would like to discover what your parents, aunts and uncles really got up to back in the days when a 'mobile' was a thing you hung above a baby's cot, leave the horseless conveyance at home and come along on Saturday, 26th November.

Wild Play in Tudourville

Lily Horseman and Sarah Keene from Herefordshire Nature Trust visited children in Woodedge, Tudorville for two afternoon sessions of nature fun and learning during the half term holiday. Children were supervised whilst hunting for 'mini beasts' and enjoyed snail and slug races.

Pictured below with Lily and Sarah at Woodedge on a wet Monday afternoon are: DJ, Zena, Rachael, Ben, Sebastian, Tyler, Bridie, Morgan, Stanford, Brad and Brad.
