Ross-on-Wye Phoenix Majorettes - National Champions!

Ross-on-Wye Phoenix Majorettes.

The girls from Ross Phoenix Majorettes returned from the National Majorette Championship, which was held in Weston Super Mare on Saturday, 3rd July with a host of awards. The senior team are now 'Military' and 'Pom-pom' National Champions, the juvenile team won third place in their military class and there were four individual awards. In the 'Senior Basic Strut'
category, Hannah Cornwall won first place and Caroline Read won third. In the 'Solo Mace' category my daughter, Sarah Wood won first place with Charlotte Jenkins winning second.

As National Champions, the senior team will now go on to represent England in the European Championships, to be held in Biel, Switzerland in October and Ross-on-Wye should be very proud of this group of dedicated young girls

who put in a lot of hard work year in and year out to provide entertainment at town events and represent the town elsewhere! Fund-raising has now begun in earnest to find the £450.00 per child required.

Ross Phoenix Majorettes now need to raise a huge amount of money in a short space of time to enable the girls to take their hard earned place in the England team travelling to Switzerland. They would be immensely grateful for any donations towards their target. Any donations or fund raising ideas may be sent to Tracie Cox at: 39, Belle Vue Road, Cinderford, GL14 2AA.

Ross-on-Wye International Festival Night to Remember!

The opening night of the Ross-on-Wye International Festival, which runs from 13th to 22nd August, is set to be as exciting as ever with two fantastic events taking place in the streets of Ross, on the 'Waterside' site and in the main 'Waterside' marquee venue.

The streets will come alive with an incredible party atmosphere as family and friends gather to see Ross-on-Wye play host to a spectacular parade of fabulous stilted insects entitled, 'Metamorphosis,' from 9 pm on Friday 13 August. Last year the roads were literally jam-packed with thousands of eager onlookers, and the organizers are recommending that audiences get their place on the parade route early to avoid disappointment. The parade will be a real blaze of sight, sound and colour and include beautiful flitting butterflies, ants playing drums, and the centre piece will be a magnificent green caterpillar!

'Metamorphosis' - coming to Ross-on-Wye on Friday 13th August 2004.

The stilted insects will wind their way along Gloucester Road, up High Street, down Edde Cross Street and into Trenchard Street where the parade will terminate on the Waterside site. The end will be marked with an amazing firework finale where a spectacular transformation will take place that has to be seen to be believed. This year’s Festival parade is an event ‘not to be missed’!

At 10 pm, the party hots up and moves inside the main Waterside marquee as 'Roberto Pla and his Latin Ensemble', the UK’s number one Latin band, give audiences the opportunity to put on their dancing shoes and boogie away the first night of the Festival. With superb arrangements, an outstanding brass and red hot rhythm sections, under the direction of Europe’s leading exponent of salsa, 'Roberto Pla,' the band have sold out major Festivals throughout Europe and beyond, playing the hottest in Afro-Cuban jazz.
